Class News
We’ve had a fantastic start to Year 4 and are excited to share the wonderful learning taking place across the autumn term.
English
In Autumn 1, we are exploring the beautiful text The Great Kapok Tree. Through this story, we will be developing our descriptive writing skills and creating our own rainforest-inspired narratives.
Maths
In the Autumn term we will be focussing on place value and the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
You can help your child at home by encouraging them to learn their times tables and completing their maths homework.

History
Our history focus this term is the Romans. We will be learning about the Roman Empire, the Roman army, and how Roman Britain has influenced our lives today.
Children can explore more about the Romans here:

Geography
In Autumn 1, our geography topic is the Rainforest. We are discovering the different layers of the rainforest, the animals that live there, and the importance of protecting these unique environments.

Science
In Autumn 1, our science learning is all about Living Things and Their Habitats. We will identify and group different living things, and think about how environments can change and pose dangers to wildlife.
In Autumn 2, we move on to Animals, Including Humans, focusing on the digestive system, teeth, food chains, predators and prey.

We are inspired by William Morris this term, exploring his patterns and designs in art. In DT, we will be putting our sewing skills to the test by designing and making seasonal stockings in time for Christmas.

Computing
In Autumn 1, our computing topic is The Internet, where we will learn how to search safely and effectively. Later, in Autumn 2, we will develop our editing skills through Audio Editing projects.
PE
We will be building our football skills in Autumn 1 and learning some exciting dance routines too.
Music
Year 4 are learning songs and rhythms through Mamma Mia this half term before moving on to glockenspiels to develop their understanding of notation and musical composition.
Trips
We are really looking forward to our visit to Chester Zoo to take part in the Rainforest Trail – a fantastic opportunity to bring our learning to life!
